Post subject: I want to delete my TIF index.dat on every start of Vista
PostPosted: Mon Aug 18, 2008 4:54 pm
I went through all the steps and created a bat file to delete my TIF index file. I use the RunOnce option as the Run option doesn't work (the file is already locked by this time).

I then set it to automatically generate a new bat file at shutdown via Group Policy which does get created. However it doesn't appear that the RunOnce entry is being added again which result in my index file not being deleted.

Is not adding the RunOnce entry by design? How can I get my index file cleaned on every start of Vista?

Thanks.

If the RunOnce entry is not being created, it's likely something is blocking it. This will usually be your security (i.e. the antivirus/system monitor), or Windows permissions (very likely when using Vista).

To check this, please load Index.dat Suite with Admin permissions.

http://vistasupport.mvps.org/run_as_administrator.htm

Once loaded with admin permissions run through the usual procedure for creating the batch file, but ensure you change IDS so it uses WinLogon instead of RunOnce (RO will not work on Vista atm - I'm working on this).
