Okay, it's still working on everything BUT these index.dat's that it finds:

C:\Documents and Settings\Local Service\IETldCache

C;\Documents and Settings\Steven Yevchak\IECompatCache

C:\Documents and Settings\Steven Yevchak\IETldCache

C:\Documents and Settings\Steven Yevchak\PrivacIE

This is on a WinXP Pro system (32-bit), running IE8, totally "patched" and updated via WU.

After IDS showed me the file paths, I was able to erase them with Eraser - but IDS won't do it by itself.

*Running IDS v.2.10.1 - Update Module v.1.0.11 - I can't get that to reach the update server to check for updates to IDS, either.

Hope this helps. Pete

Thanks Pete :)

I'm aware of this issue and am looking into it :)

In the meantime, can you tell if you've tried the following?

I already had the "Folder" settings as you indicated. Should I try the "test" version of IDS you posted in that thread?

And - why can't the version I've got on here now reach the update server? Is something wrong with the server? I'm on a cable modem connection with bellsouth (or AT&T, I should say).

*Okay, I installed your test version. I'll let you know if it makes any difference after I have time to do some more surfing. On a side note, isn't it re-assuring to know that the "Privacy" feature of IE8 keeps an index.dat file of everywhere you've been while using it? Kinda defeats the "privacy' aspect of it, one would think.

Sadly, the old update server was killed when FastHosts pulled a fast one (long story), and I've never gotten round to getting it set back up. I'm planning on re-writing the support.it-mate.co.uk site however, and will be re-writing the update server at the same time :) (hopefully I'll have time for this within the next few months or so).

If you wouldn't mind checking whether the test build works, that would be great :) (if it still fails, please try the WinLogon method using the test build (no longer completely replaces the WinLogon entry, so shouldn't have the same problems as the existing stable build does))

Just a note, whilst no update is available, the update module is now working again :) (Anderson got a new server for the Avant Browser forums (same server the it-mate.co.uk sites are hosted on), and I forgot to set the MIME type for the .ini files used for the updates)
