The little small print, icons and whatnot are irrelevant for two very specific reasons;

1. The page is extremely similar to Microsoft' and the vast majority of Joe public will only notice this, they're not going to look at the small print, icons etc, most won't even look at the URL (you know this as well as I do)
2. The cost is not *CLEARLY* disclosed (again, tiny print in the right pane is NOT good enough)

Additionally, the page I linked you to, as you well know, claims to offer a fix for "Windows 7 issues", this is completely bogus, and I'll tell you why;

1. The download offered is a paid for registry cleaner, nothing more - it fixes absolutely nothing
2. The symptoms and causes are at best, snake-oil sales pitches. Whilst the information is at least accurate, they can NOT be fixed by messing with the registry in the vast majority of cases. Again, you know this as well as I do. Indeed, given the vast majority of causes, the site actually makes clear that the software is absolutely useless at fixing anything (and again, it's prominence is such that most aren't going to see it, and those that do, wouldn't have the faintest idea what it actually means), as per;

Code:
FixMyPC scans your computer for the following types of issues: invalid registry issues, fragmented files, internet connection settings, windows tweaks and unused services.

This will not fix driver issues, corrupt files, conflicts, bogus and completely useless programs hogging the resources, adware/crapware infecting the browser, or any of the other myriad causes of OS issues, much less issues specific to Windows 7.

3. The page states;

Code:
Safe way to fix PC errors:
Step 1: Click here to download the registry repair application
Step 2: Install and launch the application
Step 3: Click the Scan Now button to detect errors and abnormalities
Step 4: Click the Repair All button to fix the errors

Step 4 should actually be PAY FOR THE PROGRAM as step 4 as above, can't be done without doing such.

4. To the right, the page claims;

Code:
The free version enables limited proactive performance protection

Again, this is bogus, for two very important reasons;

4a. It's not pro-active, it's re-active at best
4b. There is no "protection", the program is an on-demand scanner

5. The disclaimer at the bottom is completely unacceptable, again for two primary reasons;

5a. Most users will never look down there, you know this as well as I do.
5b. For those users that may, the font size is tiny, and colour made as such that most would struggle to read it

Hi, Steven. Thank you for remarks that you have specified. We will necessarily take them into consideration. We understand you concerns, but they do not imply the EMD classification you gave to our site. We do not distribute malware programs. So I hereby request you to remove the EMD classification asap ("Engaged in the distribution of malware") because it does not reflect reality.

Thank you for your attention and waiting for an answer.

Sorry for the delay. The classification has been downgraded to MMT.

cms.springboardplatform.com

List: hpHosts’s Ad and tracking servers‎ (bundled with uMatrix)

Reason: It prevents legit videos from loading. Example page: hxxp://geekjuicemedia.com/shows/crasian ... maid-cafe/

Please remove: protopage.com

http://hosts-file.net/?s=protopage.com

Looks like the info on protopage.com being listed is 3 years old:
http://labs.sucuri.net/?details=protopage.com

Because of this listing; virustotal has it listed also:
https://www.virustotal.com/en/domain/pr ... formation/
